Phoenix Suns players and coaches expressed disbelief at Monday's
media day over the NBA investigation findings that led to owner Robert Sarver's
one-year suspension and $10 million fine, with head coach Monty Williams admitting
that he was 'disgusted' over the claims.
Sarver announced his plan to sell the club
and the WNBA's Mercury last week after the NBA probe
found he had used the N-word around employees, bullied workers,
and committed several other misogynistic acts.
In one instance, Sarver is accused of asking a pregnant employee if
she would be able to perform her duties after giving
birth.
'I was in disbelief,' Williams said Monday.
'When you see the bullet points and then when you go through it, you start to
think about how these things impact the people.'
'I would say just a state of shock,' general manager James Jones said.
'You don't want that around the organization. You don't want that to be the issue.'
Veteran Suns guard Chris Paul said he was concerned about what Suns
employees have been dealing with.
'It was tough, just like anybody, reading all the different things,' said Paul, admitting that he had been in touch with NBA commissioner Adam Silver over the allegations.
'It was more so also the things that people have to endure in the workplace.'
Devin Booker, the Suns' longest-tenured player, said the
accusations against Sarver came as a shock, particularly because he had a positive relatio

MELBOURNE, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Forced to carve out a career outside the professional ranks, T20
specialist Tim David gave little thought to playing for Australia until just
before his surprise selection in the World Cup squad.
The Singapore-born 26-year-old is now relishing being part of the Australian setup and scored his first
half-century for the defending world T20 champions in last week's
six-wicket defeat by India in Hyderabad.
At 6-ft 5-in, David is a towering finishing batsman but might be more remarkable for being the only
player in the Australian squad without a state or national contract.
Dropped by home state Western Australia a few years ago, David has had to make a name
for himself in domestic T20 competitions, including the Indian Premier League and
Australia's Big Bash League.
"It's a tough one because you're by yourself and there's not a lot of support a lot of the time," David told reporters on Monday of his T20 globe-trotting.
"Of course, there are amazing opportunities and you get to experience different things. I'd encourage anyone to go out and play whatever cricket they can, whether they go to play in different countries or play locally."
David is the only player in Australia's 15-man World Cup squad who did not feature in last year's triumph in the United Arab Emirates.
Experienced Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc,
who skipped the recent India tour, quipped that he looked

Don't kill that spider. Catch it and escort it safely outside so
it can do its part in downing an estimated 400 to 800 million metric tons of prey each year.
A new study puts a massive number on the eating habits of spiders worldwide,
and it's truly astounding.
The study appeared online Tuesday in the journal The Science of Nature.
A release on the research compares the spiders' intake with humans' estimated consumption of 400 million tons of meat and
fish annually.
Researchers Martin Nyffeler and Klaus Birkhofer compiled data from 65 previous
studies to estimate the number of spiders in the world. The prey-chomping number comes from estimates of
how much spiders need to eat to survive along
with field observations of spider meals.
Studying spiders and their eating habits can be challenging.
The critters tend to be secretive and some are nocturnal.
The wide range of the 400-800 million metric tons estimate shows just how much extrapolation went into this
and how hard it is to land at a more exact
number.
More spiders
"We hope that these estimates and their significant magnitude raise public awareness and increase the level of appreciation for the important global role of spiders in terrestrial food webs," Nyffeler says.

SPECIAL SERIES -Colombia's Medellin pushes slum renewal in shadow of gangs

MEDELLIN, Colombia, Sept 10 (Thomson Reuters Foundation)
- O n the upper reaches of one of Medellin's poorest hillside slums overlooking
a warren of tin-roofed shacks, scores of residents lug wheelbarrows and mix cement as two
gang members speed by on a motorbike.
The slum dwellers are helping to create a network of
paved paths and steps, vegetable allotments and drainage canals that
will wrap around Colombia's second city.
The green belt will act both as a buffer to contain further slum sprawl and a forested park through which residents can stroll and cycle.
It's the latest in a series of initiatives by the mayor's office over the past
decade focused on once no-go slum areas -- helping Medellin to rebrand itself from a "murder capital" ruled by drug cartels to a city in the vanguard
of urban regeneration.
"I'm proud to be part of this change and make my community better. It's something I can tell my children and grandchildren I did. And it gives me a job," said gardener Kelly Ossa, taking a break from the hot midday sun.
The city is no longer at the mercy of Medellin native and drug lord Pablo Escobar after the demise of the world's largest cocaine cartel following his death in 1993.

A car used and driven by Diana, Princess of Wales
has sold for £650,000 at auction.
The black Ford Escort RS Turbo was driven by Diana while
accompanied by a bodyguard from August 23 1985 to May 1 1988.
The RS Turbo Series 1 went under the hammer on Saturday during a sale held by Silverstone Auctions.
The firm had expected the car to sell for more than £100,000, but the news that the car was driven by Diana herself
seems to have sparked many people's interest.
By comparison, a new Ford Fiesta is available from £18,665 today.
Diana was previously pictured with the RS Turbo Series 1
outside the boutique shops of Chelsea and the
restaurants of Kensington.
Diana preferred to drive her own car and had a member of the
Royalty Protection Command (SO14) in the passenger seat.
The car is believed to be unique as the first and only black RS Turbo Series
1, as agreed by S014 and the Ford PR department for reasons of discretion, instead
of the only-white manufactured model.

KYIV, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Ukrainian troops have recaptured more than 700 square km (270 square miles) of
territory in the south and in the eastern Kharkiv region, where they
advanced up to 50 km (31 miles) into Russian lines and retaken more than 20 villages, a Ukrainian general said on Thursday.
The comments by Brigadier General Oleksiy Gromov at a briefing were the most detailed public assessment
so far of Ukraine's counter-offensive.
Kyiv has so far declined to disclose many details so
as not to compromise the operation.
"During defence operations to recapture lost territory in the Kharkiv direction, since the start of the week, Ukraine's armed forces... have penetrated into enemy's lines by a depth of up to 50 km," Gromov said.
He did not say which settlements had been recaptured in Kharkiv region.
"The total amount of territory returned to Ukrainian control in the Kharkiv and Pivdennyi Buh directions stands at over 700 square kilometres," he said.
Pivdennyi Buh is a river that runs through the southern frontline city
of Mykolaiv before discharging in the Black Sea.
He said that Ukrainian troops have advanced up to 3 km (1.8 miles) on the Sloviansk
front in the east and recaptured a settlement called Ozerne.
He singled out the role of Turkish-made Bayraktar drones.
"Enemy infantry and motorized artillery units unprotected by air defence systems become easy prey for our Bayraktars, the quantity of which is always
